About Me

Crystal Simmons, PhD

Crystal Simmons, PhD

Welcome to my practice! I count it a privilege and an honor for you to consider the services that I offer. There are a plethora of professionals that could provide you with an assessment, however, my goal is to provide you with an assessment that is practical in helping you understand your child’s strengths, areas of growth, and resiliency skills.

A little bit about me. I am a southerner at heart, born and raised in Charleston, SC. I graduated from the UC Berkeley School Psychology Program and have been working as a school psychologist and special education administrator in the Bay Area for 15 years. During this time, I was also a lecturer at St. Mary’s College of California and UC Berkeley’s  school psychology programs, teaching courses in Mental Health Consultation and Adolescent Development. Over the years that I have practiced school psychology, I have completed many kinds of assessments,  including ADHD assessments, neuropsychological assessments, mental health and behavioral assessments, and assessments for learning disabilities.  At the heart of every assessment I complete is my commitment to understanding how biology, culture, family, and diversity influences learning and advocating for the best course of action to support students.

When I’m not working, I like to play hard as well. Being a single parent, my life revolves around my seven-year old son and I like to be active with him. So in my free time with him, we watch movies, go tide pooling, play sports, and create imaginary worlds through legos, cardboard, playdoh, and whatever other crafting materials we have around. In my personal leisure time, I like to swim, workout at the gym (REHIT!), meditate, listen to self-improvement courses, and cook (as well as eat!). Every once and a while, I pick up my violin and play a tune.

Given my background and experiences, I believe that I am able to provide you with quality service. But most importantly, I am here to partner with you in helping your child be successful.
